Over the past few years, incidents of fraud have increased in Canada by a whopping 218%. Like most people, if you have a smartphone, you’ve likely been on the receiving end of one of these scams. Whether it be an ominous robocall or a spam text message. Unfortunately, many of these scams have relied on the equity of the CRA as a means of scaring victims into forking over cash, personal information, and in some instances, gift cards. With the media and the public up in arms, the CRA needed to respond with an informative awareness campaign. 

Be scam smart 🤓

With a sudden influx of scammers falsely representing the CRA, the Government of Canada needed to act quickly, reminding the public to always be suspicious of calls/texts from random numbers and listen to their voice of reason.
